Map Suite Supports 3D Buildings

Do you have shapefiles with building height information or have an application in which you’d like to display building heights? Map Suite now offers new APIs that allows developers to display elevation information from shapefiles as well as the OpenStreetMap (OSM) Building data across mobile, web, and desktop apps. This can help developers make their maps more visually appealing depending on the application. New samples available via GitHub have been prepared to help you get started quickly:

Running MapSuite on Mac

Are you a Mac user looking to develop a GIS app? With the latest release of Map Suite 10.0 any developer working with a Mac can now build custom GIS applications for iOS.

To get started check out this video which demonstrates how to grab a Map Suite sample from GitHub, and run it in Xamarin Studio on Mac OS. Please note, Xamarin environment is needed on the Mac for this sample, all assemblies are downloaded through NuGet automatically.

Map Suite 10.0 is out now! The new release includes many new features and improvements. Wondering how to get started? The ThinkGeo Wiki includes a number of helpful resources, including API documentation, help guides, and more. It’s very easy to get started. Microsoft’s Visual Studio Now on Mac

Yesterday, Microsoft announced the release of Visual Studio 2017 Release Candidate as well as Visual Studio for Mac for the first time. Visual Studio for Mac will allow C# developers to build apps for the web, iOS, Android, and wearables.

In general, Visual Studio for Mac will have the majority of the features that can be found on Windows. However, it’s still in preview stage and changes may occur before its final release. This is somewhat of an expected move since Microsoft acquired Xamarin earlier this year and we are hopeful this will continue to simplify cross platform development. Continue reading

Microsoft Releases Version 1.0 of .NET Core

ThinkGeo is excited to learn that Microsoft has announced the launch of .NET Core 1.0. We are hopeful this will make cross platform development on Linux and the Mac much easier in the future for .NET developers. We will be evaluating this new technology along with the improvements in Xamarin to enhance our current Map Suite offerings for easier cross platform development.
