Use Class Break Styles to Build Thematic Maps

Do you have data that range in values? For example, let’s say you have sales data, population densities, etc. and you would like to display this information with different colors based on the range of values. If this sounds familiar you should take a look at the Class Break style!

The Class Break Style allows you to define how polygon, line, or point based features will be rendered on the map based upon a range of values in your layer’s attribute data. Each class break definition will create a new area, line, or point style and assign them to your features based on the value of their attribute data. This style gives you a thematic representation of data that has a range of values.

With the Map Suite APIs you can create as many ranges as you’d like and you have full control on how each range is rendered/displayed and allows you to change the color, transparency, gradients etc.

The Class Break styles are available across the Map Suite developer tools. Class Break style sample applications are available directly via the ThinkGeo wiki and GitHub. Also, see the Map Suite WebAPI style samples here where you can see the Class Break style among many other styles in actio
